About Us RED INK is generated by student reporters of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Particularly, we are members of the fall 2008 reporting and writing class taught by Associate Professor Dale Maharidge, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, and Adjunct Professor Jessica Bruder, the author of “Burning Book: A Visual History of Burning Man.” Maharidge and Bruder demand a “street-dogging” style of reporting. “Work the street, get out of the office,” Maharidge says. “Real reporting means sore ankles from walking the street, looking people in the eyes. Journalism of the kind we want you to practice has never been more vital given the issues facing American society – the war in Iraq, the mortgage crisis, energy prices, the rich-poor gap, the presidential election and its aftermath, and so on. It’s a great time to be a journalist.” Dispatched in the neighborhoods of New York City, the reporters at RED INK work to capture stories of action, indifference, passion, outrage, humor, suffering, joy and sadness as change spreads through the city and the nation. Adjunct Professor Molly Kincaid, who also edits the culture Web site, indexmagazine.com, is our site adviser and editor. Donna Lee and Ben Piven are RED INK’s student editors.
